Sodium chloride (NaCl) is made up of two ions :

chloride (Cl-) and sodium (Na +), in the proportion 60% / 40% approximately.

Salts can have various colors, for example :

o yellow (sodium chromate);
o orange (sodium dichromate);
o red (mercury sulphide);
o purple (cobalt dichloride hexahydrate);
o blue (copper sulfate pentahydrate, ferric hexacyanoferrate);
o green (nickel oxide);
o colorless (magnesium sulfate);
o white (titanium dioxide);
o and black (manganese dioxide). Most inorganic pigments and many synthetic organic dyes are salts.
