Description
Bentonite : Bentonite is a colloidal clay. We consider it to be a smectite, being essentially made up of montmorillonite (Na, Ca) 0.33 (Al, Mg) 2Si4O10 (OH) 2 (H2O) n (80%) which is a clay which explains its water retention capacity because montmorillonite is a particularly swelling type of smectite.
Other names : We also give it the term fuller’s earth or white clay.
Use : It has various properties. In particular, it absorbs proteins, reduces the activity of enzymes. Bentonite muds (containing a fraction of bentonite) are used as drilling muds in earthworks and diaphragm walls, due to their ability to quickly and easily give way to poured concrete in their place. They can be added to the compost.
It is mainly found in:
– plastic industry,
– cosmetic
– animal bedding,
– livestock feed,
– foundries,
– the oil drilling industry,
– agriculture
