In geology, marble is a metamorphic rock derived from limestone and consisting mainly of calcite crystals. In architecture, sculpture and marble, this term can refer to any stone that is difficult to cut and capable of taking a good polish, the most common of which are "real" marbles.

The post Marble first appeared on aa-ore-company.opticelbadr.com.

Regional metamorphism or more rarely by contact metamorphism has transformed marble, a metamorphic rock that comes from limestone or sedimentary dolomite. In this process of transformation of the original rock, the sedimentary structures are erased and the carbonate rock recrystallizes into a cluster of meshed calcite and / or dolomite crystals of millimeter to centimeter dimensions. The argillaceous intercalations, the detrital minerals or the mineral oxides present in the original carbonate then give the marble various colorations and polychrome veins of the greatest aesthetic effect.

Other names :

Depending on their finish in particular, they can take different names, marble… :

ancient, particularly the cockroach marble which one took from the quarries of Greece and of which one made the statues;
rough, marble which is in a block and which has not been cut or cut;
quilted, marble which is only cut at the tip;
rough, marble which is only worked with a double point or with a chisel;
polished, marble that has been rubbed with sandstone, a linen stopper and emery;
lustrous, marble which has been smoothed and rubbed with a cloth and hotpot, and which is shiny;
sliced, marble which is cut into tables six lines two inches thick;
in its pass, slices of marble which have been cut along the length of the bench, that is to say parallel to the bed of the block;
in reverse, marble whose edges have been cut to the height of the bench, that is to say parallel to the joints of the block; marble sawn in this way becomes very difficult in cutting;
proud, marble which breaks easily under the chisel because the grain is very fine and too dry;
stringy, marble which has threads or veins of heterogeneous materials running through it; such is Bourbonnais marble;
pouf, marble which, when pruned, cannot retain its sharp edges being subject to chipping;
terrasseux, marble which contains in its mass of the soft parts which one calls terraces;
cameloté, marble which, after work, has the appearance of cracks or astonishment on its surface.
Use :

Marble is widely used in construction as a decorative material, in steps, street furniture, to dress facades, in bathrooms (basins, bathtub, shower tray, etc.), kitchens, in the artistic field, etc.
